A Faithful Man-Proverbs 20:6

Proverbs 20:6 Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?”

Proverbi 20:6 Molta gente vanta la propria bontà, ma un uomo fedele chi lo troverà?”

The Proverbs are small sermonettes that carry a powerful message. Solomon saw how people whose actions betrayed their speech affected others. It has certainly been true from generation to generation that “talk is cheap”! Notice how common it is for people to advertise their loyalty (“Many a man…”). But words must be substantiated by deeds. James realized this in the church he pastored and warned, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22). “Unfailing love” can really only be validated when it is tested. A clear example can be seen in our friendships. Proverbs 17:17 states, “A friend loves at all times.”  But we’ve all been hurt by someone we thought was a friend; yet when difficult times came, we were deserted. Or perhaps we were the one who betrayed the friendship.
The question for us today is how important is faithfulness to you in all aspects of your spiritual life? For example, are you faithful to God, faithful to your relationships, faithful to His church and faithful in your words? The last clause of this verse is a question we all need to answer. God is looking for people who will be faithful both in word and deed.
Pray with me:  Lord, I confess that I have claimed things but not always followed through on them in different areas of my life. Help me to resolve to take this verse and commit myself to being genuinely loyal to God and others.
