A Good Report-Romans 1:8-9

Romans 1:8-9 “First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all time.“

At the writing of this epistle, Paul had not yet been to Rome but during his missionary travels met Roman Christians who informed him of the spread of the Gospel there. Notice what he heard: their faith was being reported all over the world. The events that were happening in Rome were communicated throughout the empire. Therefore, the news of the spread of the Gospel in Rome and the persecution of the Christians and Jews by Claudius were well known. Oddly, it was their persecution that made them famous. Paul’s message to them was not meant to fill them with pride but to encourage them knowing that their faith had encouraged others facing similar situations. The believers in Rome were a growing church who only had one Lord, Jesus Christ, and were paying the price for not declaring Caesar ‘lord’.

It is also a reminder to us that whether we realize it or not, our faith is also being reported. If we have a good testimony or a poor one, believers and unbelievers notice. Sadly, even those with a good testimony have those who won’t admit that they walk the way they talk. We can’t change that. It is also true that some are watching us very closely to see if we really have the faith in good times and bad. What kind of report can be said of you and me?

Pray with me: Lord, I know many times that my lifestyle speaks louder than my words. Help me to always keep a good report before the people that cross my path.
