Colossians 1:12-20 Jesus Christ, God the Son

Colossians 1:12-20 Jesus Christ, God the Son

Definition:  One God, existing eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

These verses gives clear evidence to the Doctrine of the Trinity in reference to the Son. This is a Biblical concept hard to explain because

            1)   We are finite and God is infinite

            2)   We can explain what we know but God is inexplicable.

Purpose of the book of Colossians was to:

             1)   Correct false teaching

            2)   Exalt Christ as God who is revealed.

The purpose in this text is to use the doctrine of redemption as proof to the Deity of Christ. Paul gives abundant evidence for the supremacy of Christ in 4 views.

      C.  He holds all things together. V. 17

3.   THE THEOLOGICAL ORDER

       A.  He is the  redeemer (v 12-13) and we are the redeemed (v. 14).  The work of the redeemer was to 1) reveal the Father  2)   restore     relationship (John 1:18,  John 14:8)

      B.  He is the restorer of our relationship with God. v. 14, 20 (“forgiveness” and “made peace”)
