God Is With Us-Psalm 61:1-4

Psalm 61:1-4 “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Selah

[Pausa]

At times in his life, David had to escape enemies by passing through rocky terrain. When he would become fatigued and worn, he constantly reminded himself that there was the promise of a rock of refuge that would protect him. David asked God to lead him to the Rock that was higher than he was. He had already climbed through stony places but he wanted to be led to a place he could not reach by himself: a high rock in God where he would be safe.

As he was being pursued by his enemies, he saw God as his strong tower, a secure dwelling and a shelter. Finally, David pictures God with wings of a bird shielding and protecting her young.

The idea of “Selah” suggests that we pause to think about what God has just said. As we ponder these images of God as a place of safety, a secure dwelling and our shield and protector, pause to give God praise and thanksgiving for His presence with us in our journey with Him each day.

Pray with me: Lord, I want to stop and reflect that You are with me as I face the challenges of every day. Help me to see that when You lead me, there is always a place of security, strength and protection over me.
