God’s Grace-1 Timothy 1:12-14

1 Timothy 1:12-14 “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”

It is always amazing when someone gives their testimony of how Jesus changed their life. Paul is a prime example of what God can do when people meet Jesus as their Savior. Paul told his story many times in the New Testament. In verse 13, he lists only some of his past sins but doesn’t hold back about how terrible a sinner he had been. There are additional references where Paul speaks of his past before He found Christ (Acts 22:4-5, 19-20; 26:9-11). In these verses here Paul wants to give thanks again to the Lord Jesus Christ; not only has God shown him grace but considered him worthy to be appointed into the ministry.

When we think of people who are lost without God’s saving grace, our hearts cry out to God that they would awake from their ignorance or willful unbelief. Is anyone too far that God can’t reach them? Whatever our life was like before coming to Jesus, each one of us had a Damascus Road like experience where God’s grace touched us and He showed us His saving mercy.

In verse 14, Paul amplifies his thoughts of grace by saying that it was poured out in abundance. In the original language of the text, “abundantly” is used in the verb form. It literally says that the grace, faith and love that are in Christ Jesus “was exceedingly abundant”. Whatever measure of grace you need today, God has it in abundance!

Pray with me: Lord, like Paul, I thank You that Your grace reached down to me. Help me to never give up hope that Your abundant grace will reach my family, friends and this world.
