Our Deliverer-Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, 28

Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, 28 “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.” 13“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”19“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”28 “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”

This psalm is a call for the redeemed of the Lord (Psalm 107:2) to remember their deliverance. Between each repetitive verse, the Psalmist recounts how the Lord delivered them in four different ways. First, he reminds them of the deliverance in the wilderness. They cried to the Lord and had He not intervened, they would have died of thirst and hunger. Second, because of their unfaithfulness, they were made prisoners and when they cried to the Lord, He broke the prison bonds. Third, the Lord delivered the sick from death.

When they were afflicted because of sin, they cried to the Lord and He healed them by His word. And fourth, when mariners at sea face a storm, they cried to the Lord and He calmed the troubled sea and guided them safely in their journey.

Although much of their difficulty was caused by their own foolishness, these four reminders are a great encouragement to us of how the Lord wants to deliver His redeemed when they cry out to Him in times of trouble. In times of distress whether it be sustenance, oppression, sickness or guidance, the Lord is our great deliverer. Let us be reminded this day to thank God for His unfailing love.

Pray with me: Lord, I have found myself in trouble at times by my own mistakes and sometimes just because I live in a troubled world. Help me to cry out to You knowing that whatever I face, You are my deliverer.
