Sowing and Reaping-Galatians 6:6-10

Galatians 6:6-10 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.  Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
In Paul’s closing thoughts to the Galatian churches, he charges them to remember that they have been recipients of good instruction in the Word and should be supportive of those who impart it. Verse 7 presents the reason to provide for those in the ministry. Paul’s language is quite strong here because he uses the word ‘mocked’ which means “to turn your nose up”. In other words, don’t disregard God’s instruction because what we sow to the Lord, He will repay in His benefits to us.
Paul’s second reminder to the Galatians is to be faithful in doing the work of God. Paul includes himself in this command: “Let us”, “we will”, “if we do not”, “as we have”, and “let us”. Notice also that in this paragraph, the word “sow” is mentioned three times and the word “reap” is mentioned four. Whenever something in the Scriptures is repeated for emphasis, it is wise to pay special attention to the instruction. Paul is reminding the Galatians that they shouldn’t be negligent in continuing their support in the work of God. Why? Because the reaping or blessing will come at God’s proper time. Any seed that is planted does not bear fruit immediately but at the appropriate time, fruit will come!
Pray with me: Lord, I confess I have become weary, at times, in my support and prayer for the work of God. Help me remember Your instructions on the laws of sowing and reaping; I will reap a harvest at the proper time if I don’t give up.
