To Your Name Be the Glory-Psalm 115:1

Psalm 115:1 “Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.”

Salmo 115:1 «Non a noi, o Signore, non a noi, ma al tuo nome da’ gloria, per la tua bontà e per la tua fedeltà!»

This short verse should not be taken lightly. It is a strong reminder that it is always the Lord who gives us spiritual strength and victory in the troubles of life. The Bible is full of examples of people who thought they could take credit for the success in their life. They basically inverted the Bible verse to read: ‘Not to the Lord, but to me be the glory’. Although Samson knew his strength came from the Lord, he began to believe that he helped wield some of his power. Saul was given the honor to lead the people of God as their first king. After a while he began to think that he was exempt from God’s law and made up his own version of worship. He lost his position as king of Israel because he took the glory destined for the Lord.

The second part of this verse is another reminder of why we should always give the glory to the Lord: His love and faithfulness. These words become the basis by which we always recognize our source for spiritual life and strength. If we keep the practice of casting all our crowns before the Lord, it helps avoid the danger of taking some of the glory for ourselves.

Pray with me: Lord, I know that You deserve all the glory for the power and strength in my life. Help me to always be cognizant that without You, I can do nothing (John 15:5).
