Your Word-Psalm 119:105-112

Psalm 119:105-112 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O Lord, according to your word.108 Accept, O Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

This is one the great truths about our spiritual journey with God. We recognize that the Word of God is a light to direct our path. A similar phrase in Proverbs 6:23 says it this way: For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life.” Here the Psalmist makes a fresh pledge to God that he will follow it regardless of the suffering that may accompany his commitment.

Some people view the Bible as a burden. They see God’s laws as too restrictive and ask why bad things still happen to them when they serve the Lord. Or possibly they may follow God’s law to some measure because they are afraid of facing the consequences of eternity without God. These are poor ways to view the blessing of God’s Word that is intended for every believer. Even though the Psalmist faced a constant barrage of enemies, he says that God’s statues are the joy of his heart.

He concludes with his unwavering stand that he will keep God’s decrees until the end. We all have been given a time in this world. When we pass into eternity, will it be said of us that we followed the light for our path until the very end?

Pray with me : Lord, I know I need Your Word to guide me in all of my ways. Help me to always love Your Word and never doubt that it is a blessing as I follow it.
